Neuropsychology: Basics

Specialization within psychology that focuses on the effects of brain development and brain function on behavior, which includes thinking, feeling, and acting.

Children, adolescents, and young adults with learning, attention, social, developmental, and/or other functional concerns, and those diagnosed with medical or neurological conditions or injuries that affect thinking, learning, mood or behavior.

 To assist with diagnosis, to provide a better understanding of strengths and challenges, to help optimize a person’s functioning across settings, to monitor changes across development, and to guide interventions and supports.

Evaluation that includes clinical interview with caregiver and patient, record review, behavioral questionnaires, standardized testing, interpretation and conceptualization of data, report preparation, feedback, collaboration and psychoeducation.

Initial intake/clinical interview and feedback can be completed in person or via telehealth. Patient interview and testing conducted in person over 1-2 sessions.
